Ishant Ayadassen named Outstanding Young Person: what it means for Friday
Our founder was honoured by JCI Mauritius for entrepreneurship and contribution to the local hospitality and tech sector. A note on the recognition, the talks, and what it tells you about the operator behind Friday.
The recognition. In October 2025, Ishant Ayadassen, the founder and CEO of Friday Retreats, was named a JCI Mauritius Outstanding Young Person Honoree in Category A — Business, Economic and Entrepreneurial Accomplishment. JCI's TOYP programme has run for decades and recognises young leaders who create measurable change in their field. Past recipients in Mauritius span business, law, public service, and the sciences. The award is decided by an independent panel, not self-nominated.
Why we're writing about it. Two reasons. The first is honest: most guests booking a stay with Friday won't have met us yet, and a recognised founder is one of the small signals that the operator is serious. The second is more concrete: in the same year, Ishant was invited to a Presidential Roundtable at State House — a session of fewer than twenty people convened by the President of the Republic of Mauritius on entrepreneurship and economic development — and was selected as the TOYP 2026 Launch Speaker at the Municipality of Port Louis in the presence of the Mayor. The conversations that follow are the ones that shape how Friday grows.
What Friday is, briefly. Friday operates a curated portfolio of short-term rental residences across Flic en Flac on the west coast and Grand Baie on the north — roughly Rs 500M of AUM under management, paying owners 10 to 14.7 percent net annual yields. We run bookings, housekeeping, maintenance, and concierge end-to-end with our own team. Friday Retreats was incorporated in December 2023; we have been operating residences on this island since 2021. The model is hospitality-first: every residence treated like the only one, every guest like a friend who flew in for the weekend.
The builder track behind the operator. Ishant is not a first-time founder. Friday is the fifth venture across roughly ten years: Munch Deliveries (student-focused food delivery at Eckerd College, profiled in The Current), LPL Financial (one of the largest US broker-dealers, where he earned the FINRA Series 7 + SIE in 2020), Aya Trades (one of Mauritius's leading NFT and metaverse studios — $1M+ in NFT sales, including Lootnance, the first exchange in Lootverse), Aya Corp (global venture strategy and growth marketing; built the Otayo mobile app, now Mauritius's largest event-ticketing platform at 10,000+ tickets per month), and Zunko (a Robinhood-style retail trading platform paused in June 2025 — four years of FSC regulatory groundwork that now underpins Friday's 2028 fractional layer). The recognition lands on top of that, not in place of it.

The argument we keep making. Mauritius has spent a decade pulled between the resort-chain model on one side and the cheap-rental model on the other. The middle — where a stay can feel both serious and lived-in like a home — has been underserved by accident more than by design. Friday's argument across the talks and the press is that the middle is the work, and that the boutique end of the market is the part that's opening now. Ishant has been making this argument for a year and a half. The TOYP recognition is one indication the argument is landing.
For our guests. If you're booking with Friday for the first time, the award doesn't change what we deliver — same team, same residences, same end-to-end care. It does mean the company is being watched a little more carefully than it was a year ago, and we take that as a forcing function on the standard. If anything goes sideways during your stay, you'll be talking to the same small team. Ishant included.
